Marketplace Fee Comparison

One product, four platforms — see your margin on Amazon FBA, Etsy, Shopify, and eBay side by side, ranked by what you'd actually keep.

Informational only, not professional advice. Each column reuses this site's own Amazon FBA, Etsy, Shopify, and eBay calculators — see their individual pages for full methodology, sources, and scope limitations.

How this is calculated

This tool doesn't introduce new fee logic — it runs the item price, shipping, and platform-specific inputs you enter through this site's existing Amazon FBA, Etsy, Shopify, and eBay calculators and lines the results up side by side, sorted by the margin percentage you'd keep.

Amazon's referral fee is calculated on item price plus shipping (Amazon bundles them into one "sale price"), matching how the standalone Amazon calculator treats it.

Sources

Every figure traces back to the individual platform calculator that computed it — Amazon FBA, Etsy, Shopify, and eBay — each with its own cited primary source and "last reviewed" date.

Scope & limitations

Shopify assumes Shopify Payments with no monthly-order subscription amortization. eBay assumes the sale is within your 250 free monthly listings, at eBay's "most categories" rate. Amazon is scoped to Small/Large Standard-Size items up to 20 lb, same as the standalone tool. Sales tax isn't modeled on any column. Treat this as a starting comparison, not a final decision — each platform also differs in traffic, competition, and buyer intent in ways no fee calculator captures.

Frequently asked questions

Where do these numbers come from?

This tool doesn't have its own fee schedule — it runs your inputs through the same four calculator engines already published on this site (Amazon FBA, Etsy, Shopify, and eBay), so the numbers match those tools exactly. See each platform's own tool page for its full methodology and sources.

Why isn't Stripe/PayPal included as a fifth column?

Stripe and PayPal are payment processors you'd use within your own store (for example, on Shopify), not a separate marketplace you list a product on — they're not a parallel choice to "where do I sell this." Use the dedicated Stripe vs PayPal calculator once you've decided to sell on your own site.

What assumptions does the Shopify and eBay column use?

Shopify assumes Shopify Payments (not a third-party gateway) with no monthly-order subscription amortization. eBay assumes the sale is within your 250 free monthly listings and "most categories" rate. Open the full calculator for either platform to customize these.

Why would a product's best platform change with price or weight?

Amazon's fulfillment fee is weight-tiered and eBay's per-order fee jumps at $10, so a $9 item and a $40 item of the same weight can rank platforms differently. That's the reason to compare a specific product rather than assume one platform is always cheapest.
